Continuing Education Requirements: Certificate and registration holders shall satisfactorily complete a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education the requirements every two years. The requirements are as follows: · 3 hours in ethics, jurisprudence, or risk management; · 3 hours in communicable diseases including AIDS/HIV; · 18 hours in massage related courses; and · Possession of a current and valid CPR certificate. The Board shall approve credit for courses approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB); courses offered by Maryland schools approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) or courses determined by the Board to meet professional standards and educational needs for certified therapists and registered massage practitioners. CMTs or RMPs issued certificates/registrations within 12 months of the renewal date are exempt from the CEU requirement. The Board shall conduct a biennial audit of continuing education and shall notify audited CMT/RMPs by mail to provide satisfactory evidence of completion of the continuing education courses. It is the responsibility of each practitioner to maintain accurate continuing education course records. If audited and unable to present the required documents, the renewal application will not be processed and you may not practice massage in Maryland until you come into compliance.
